Melissa Marcus
Senior Program Officer, Charter

Melissa works directly with school leadership and staff members to support the completion of charter renewal applications, authorizer site visits and annual accountability reports for each of our charter schools. She has taught in charter schools in New Jersey and was a Teach For America Corps Member.  Melissa holds an M.A. in education policy from Teachers College, Columbia University and a B.A. in political science, legal studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Elizabeth Mason
Instructional Specialist, Technology and Writing

Elizabeth is responsible for coaching global history teachers participating in the grant-funded Drive To Write program. Before coming to New Visions, she worked for 10 years as a high school English literature and history teacher in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and at international schools in Brazil and China. She holds a B.A. in history and communications from Texas State University and a M.Ed in educational technology from the University of Texas.

Rezwan Mazumder
Accounts Payable Specialist

Rezwan is responsible for processing accounts payable disbursements for the New Visions Charter High Schools network. He also acts as a liaison for all vendors. Previously, he worked at the Maspeth Town Hall as an instructional group leader, where he provided lessons to children ages 6-10 on entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills. There, he also performed administrative duties and worked closely with teachers and parents regarding students' progress. He holds a B.A. in psychology from Hunter College. 

Kory McBride
College Success Manager

Kory is responsible for helping schools create and sustain effective 9th through 12th grade college readiness, access and transition support systems for student and their families. As a college access professional, Kory has worked with numerous Department of Education charter schools, community based organizations, as well as individuals. In 2014, He was named the State University of New York (SUNY) NYC College Counselor of the Year at Thurgood Marshall Academy for Learning and Social Change, a New Visions affinity school.  He currently serves on the SUNY Enrollment Management Advisory Council and holds a B.A. from Pensacola Christian College and a Master's certificate from Fordham University. 

Jackie McKinney
Partnership Manager

Jackie is responsible for developing and implementing the New Visions Student Advisory Network and the management of school partnerships through the community engagement and postsecondary pathways department. Before coming to New Visions, she worked in nonprofit program implementation, advocacy and organizational capacity building for community-based organizations with a focus on after-school and public/charter school partnerships. She holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Baruch College through the National Urban Fellows program and a B.A. in Communications from Elon University. 

Christina McNamara
Engineering Manager

Christina is responsible for developing and maintaining software applications that support school leaders in effectively integrating data and technology. Prior to joining New Visions, Christina taught middle school for five years, beginning as a Teach for America corps member. She holds an M.A. in education policy from Brown University and a B.A. in international studies from Kenyon College

Lucinda Mendez
Director of Transfer Schools

Lucinda is responsible for facilitating a culture focused on leadership development, student learning and achievement, as well as accountability for improved outcomes for New Visions transfer high school students. She began her career in NYC public schools in 1992 and has served as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, literacy coach and founding principal of a small transfer high school in the South Bronx.  She earned a B.S. in psychology/sociology from Wesleyan University, an M.A. in bilingual education from Long Island University and is a graduate of the NYC Aspiring Principals Program.

Carlos Mendoza
Deputy Director of Engineering

Carlos joined New Visions in 2015 as a Full Stack Developer. Currently, he leads the New Visions Data Portal software engineering team by providing technical guidance to ensure the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of the platform. Prior to New Visions, Carlos worked as a software engineer specializing in full-stack JavaScript at Cedrus Consulting. In addition to developing software, he also has experience working with youth in a number of program roles with City Year New York and subsequently the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). He holds a B.A. in Economics from Cornell University.

Rodney Moore
Network Administrator

Rodney is responsible for supporting the technology needs of New Visions Charter High Schools.  He previously worked at a performing arts school in a similar position and at a consulting firm deploying networks, servers and computers.  He holds an A+ certificate from CompTIA, and is currently pursuing ITIL Foundation certification as well as a degree in electromechanical engineering at Borough of Manhattan Community College.

Claudio Morsella
Product Manager

Claudio is responsible for defining the product vision and strategy for digital tools that will equip educators to identify students' needs and help them succeed in high school and beyond. Before coming to New Visions, Claudio worked at a B2B technology company, for over 10 years, providing software solutions for corporate governance, including tools that run electronic (paperless) board meetings. He holds a Bachelor's in music from Berklee College of Music, which has inspired his creativity, technicality, and ability to collaborate with a team.

Sarah Muffly
Lead High School Content Developer

Sarah creates content for school administrators and NYC DOE staff on how to implement New Visions data tools and develop reliable organizational processes that ensure all students have the best possible chance to graduate from high school. She also provides direct support to a portfolio of NYC DOE Community Schools on implementing these tools and processes. Prior to joining New Visions, she was a Fulbright-Clinton fellow in Haiti, where she worked at the Haitian Ministry of Education. Previously, she worked at the Earth Institute at Columbia University on education projects in Haiti, Ghana and India. She also has experience teaching English as a foreign language in France and in the U.S. Sarah holds a master's degree from Teachers College - Columbia University, and a bachelor's degree from Smith College.

Venissa Nieves
Payroll Administrator

Venissa prepares and processes payroll for New Visions central office and the ten New Visions Charter High Schools. Before coming to New Visions, she gained 12 years of experience working in payroll departments at several nonprofits including the American Civil Liberties Union, Teach for America, and Rising Ground (formerly known as Leake & Watts). She holds a B.A. in accounting from Monroe College in New York.

Yuliya Ochakovskaya
Strategic Data Facilitator

Yuliya works with New Visions’ student support team and the Affinity field support team.  She supports a portfolio of New Visions Charter and Affinity schools in the implementation of New Visions data tools, focusing specifically on the needs of special education and multilingual learners.   Before coming to New Visions, she completed her graduate degree in the cognitive neuroscience subprogram of psychology, where she conducted research using neuroscience methods to investigate the influence of achievement goals on learning. Prior to that she taught special education for 3 years at a high school in the Bronx. Yuliya holds a B.A. in psychology from Stony Brook University, an M.S. in teaching students with disabilities from City College, and a PhD in psychology from The Graduate Center, CUNY.   

Francis Pegus
Network Architect

Francis joined New Visions in 2012. He is responsible for building and supporting the growing infrastructure needs of the organization and the charter schools we support.He previously served as lead support tech at Delzotto Consulting and provided system administration services. He has a B.A. in computer information systems from Baruch College.

Emma Peng
Senior Accountant

Emma manages accounting operations for eight New Visions charter schools, which includes overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.  She also handles monthly closings, financial reporting, annual audits and state compliance reporting.  Emma has a number of years’ experience in managing full cycle accounting at Shanghai Commercial Bank and more recently at QSAC Inc.  Emma holds a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Baruch College. 

Sabrina Persaud
Operations Assistant

Sabrina is responsible for providing office services and finance support.  She oversees all aspects of procurement, including inventory management, ordering of all supplies and materials to meet organizational needs. She acts as a liaison for all vendors and building management.  Previously, she worked at the Maspeth Town Hall as a youth counselor, where she provided assistance to students with their homework, planned activities such as arts & crafts and performing arts. She holds a B.A. in psychology and history from Queens College.  

Nicole Player
Associate Director of Human Resources & Payroll Systems

Nicole joined New Visions in 2012. She provides human resource support to New Visions staff and to New Visions charter schools. Nicole previously worked for Rocket Software in Waltham, Mass. Nicole's background as an HR generalist includes benefits administration, on-boarding, recruitment and performance management. She earned her B.A. in business management from Providence College in Rhode Island.

Kiran Dilip Purohit
Director, Curriculum & Instruction

Kiran joined New Visions in 2012. She works on the development of curriculum across content areas. Prior to New Visions, she worked as curriculum and instruction specialist at EduChange, Inc., where she collaborated with schools to develop coherent secondary science and math curricula. Before that, she taught science and math in middle schools in New York City.  She holds Master's degrees from Teachers College and New York University, and an Ed.D in curriculum studies from Columbia University, Teachers College.  

Araf Rahman
Technical Support Coordinator

Araf oversees the process of resolving technical issues with New Visions data tools and recommends feature improvements. Prior to joining New Visions, Araf worked as a data analyst for NYC Health + Hospitals, focusing on performance and operations data for the health system citywide. He holds a technical certificate in QA Testing from Per Scholas, and is currently pursuing both a B.S in computer science at Hunter College and a full stack web development certificate from Flatiron School.

Kameelah Rasheed
Instructional Specialist

Kameelah joined New Visions as an instructional specialist in 2013.  She co-develops the global history curriculum, a full scope and sequence curricular framework used across New York state. Prior to joining New Visions, she taught social studies and humanities for five years in both New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area where she designed differentiated lesson resources and coordinated after-school arts programming. An Amy Biehl Fulbright Scholar to South Africa, she holds a B.A. in public policy and Africana studies from Pomona College and an M.A. in secondary social studies education from Stanford University.

Denisse Rodriguez Mota
Talent Acquisition Associate

Denisse is responsible for supporting organization-wide recruitment and hiring efforts through job fairs, information sessions and candidate screenings. Before coming to New Visions, she interned at nonprofits including the National Down Syndrome Society and the Wildlife Conservation Society. She holds a B.A. in psychology from Hamilton College. 

Kristen Rosa
Lead Strategic Data Facilitator for Transfer Schools

Kristen Rosa works with a portfolio of New Visions’ Affinity Transfer Schools to implement a set of New Visions data tools and develop the reliable organizational processes that ensure all students have the best possible chance of graduating from high school. Before coming to New Visions, she worked as a high school teacher in South Dakota and a youth worker in Boston. As a high school teacher, she taught Psychology and ELA, with a focus on struggling readers and repeat freshmen. In addition, she served as a data manager, helping to coordinate testing and provide teachers and administrators with relevant information to help adjust instruction. Kristen holds a B.A. in sociology from Smith College.  

Susan Rosello
Program Coordinator, Curriculum and Instruction

Susan is responsible for providing administrative and project support to the curriculum and instruction department. Before coming to New Visions she worked as an administrative assistant for an independently owned and operated ESL institute for adult learners in New York City. She holds a B.A. in theatre from SUNY Potsdam.

Sarah Rosenshine
Full Stack Developer

Sarah develops and maintains software applications for New Visions. Previously, she was a technical coach for the Flatiron School's newly developed online program. She is also a writer and holds a B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Chicago. 

Dazjon Ross
Program Coordinator, Charter

Dazjon is responsible for supporting the charter team's branding, student recruitment efforts, school lotteries, family engagement and community engagement as well as partnership building efforts.  Dazjon has a bachelor's degree in technology and communication design from the NYC College of Technology and served as the program manager at Harlem Children's Zone for its Baby College Initiative.

Michelle Rotella
Instructional Specialist for Interventions

Michelle is an instructional specialist for 9-12 literacy interventions. She started in special education, seven years ago, through Teach for America.  Since then, she has served as a special education coordinator and dean of special services with The Urban Assembly and Achievement First. Prior to those roles, she coached reading intervention and helped to support students in achieving the highest growth in Lexile for the Achievement First network.  She holds a Bachelor's degree in psychology and anthropology from Penn State, a Master's degree in special education from Hunter College and a  Master's degree in educational leadership from Columbia University. 

John Salazar
Instructional Specialist, Science

John Salazar is responsible for supporting science teachers within the New Visions Charter High Schools network through professional development, coaching and curriculum development. Before coming to New Visions, he worked as a NYC Department of Education science instructional coach, collaborating with a team that designed citywide professional development in the areas of science, social studies and ELA. John previously taught general and advanced placement high school chemistry. He holds an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from the University of San Diego and an MPA in public and nonprofit management from New York University.

Stephanie Sandor
Lead Human Resources Business Partner

Stephanie is responsible for providing support to New Visions and New Visions Charter High Schools staff in the areas of recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, policy and procedure, compensation and benefits. Before coming to New Visions, she worked at the Natural Resources Defense Council as a human resources manager.  Her past experience includes acting as a strategic partner to domestic and international client groups, providing counsel on people strategy, talent selection (including diversity outreach) and leadership development. She holds a B.A. in political science and Spanish from St. Lawrence University and an M.S. in human resources management from The New School. 

Joely Saravia
Communications Junior Designer

Joely assists the senior designer with the design and production of all digital and print materials. She is also responsible for providing general project support to the communications department.  Before coming to New Visions, she worked as a freelance graphic designer with several nonprofits including, The College Success program, Graham Windham and Reel Works. She holds a bachelor's degree in communication design from Parsons the New School for Design. 

Danielle Scaramellino
Director of Product Development

Danielle joined New Visions in 2010.  She currently leads the Product Development team in creating tools that transform schools' ability to effectively plan, execute and evaluate the efficacy of core system initiatives, and maximize the impact of technology in support of student learning.  This work is integral to New Visions’ support of schools in modernizing school infrastructure to improve the responsiveness and quality of operations, instruction and student support.  She earned her B.A. in international affairs from Northeastern University and a master's in international education development from NYU's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education & Human Development.  She has also participated in short-term education research endeavors in India, Thailand, South Africa and Zambia.

Asher Scott
Instructional Specialist, Technology and Writing

Asher is responsible for coaching global history teachers to meaningfully use technology within their practice. Funded by the Drive to Write grant, the focus of Asher's position is on using technology to build and implement literacy tools that streamline feedback and assessment cycles toward improved student outcomes. Prior to his role as an instructional specialist, Asher worked extensively as a history and English teacher in Melbourne, Australia. He completed his Master's of Teaching at the University of Melbourne, and spent a year of the program teaching and studying at the University of Oulu in Finland.

Shoshana Silverman
Senior Program Officer, PowerSchool Administrator

Shoshana is responsible for managing PowerSchool across the New Visions Charter High Schools network and supports charter school leadership teams in programming and the integration of data systems. She holds a B.A. in Latin and Greek Language from Oberlin College.

 

Amanda Smith
Digital Community Engagement Specialist

Amanda is responsible for providing support and fostering user engagement for our Cloud Lab team. Prior to New Visions, Amanda worked as special educator in NYC, where she was a proponent of and troubleshooter for assistive technology to aid students in meeting developmental goals. Amanda received her B.A. in elementary education and the education of the hearing impaired from Flagler College and is pursuing an M.S. in instructional technology from New York Institute of Technology.

Simrun Soni
Lead Strategic Data Facilitator for Charter

Simrun is responsible for data analysis and support for all New Visions charter schools. She supports school leadership and school teams with the implementation of New Visions data tools and development of reliable organizational processes to help students graduate from high school. Prior to this position, she served as a resident researcher at New Visions, utilizing qualitative and quantitative research to support New Visions' programmatic development, staff inquiries and policy projects. She holds a Bachelor's degree in economics from Penn State University and a Master's degree in education and social policy from New York University.

Shivani Sood
Talent Acquisition and Systems Specialist

Shivani is responsible for supporting New Visions' network-wide recruitment efforts and strategic talent acquisition projects. Before joining New Visions, she worked as a systems engineer with Infosys and as a Human Resources Intern with The Mehta Group in Mumbai, India. Shivani holds an MBA in human resources from Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research, and Bachelor's and Master's degrees in computer applications from Panjab University.

Andrea Soonachan
Deputy Director of Career Readiness

Andrea is responsible for developing systems and support strategies that integrate career readiness with post-secondary planning. She works to ensure that all students gain work-based competencies and have access to viable pathways that will lead to employment in growth sectors and fulfilling careers, as well as post-secondary plans. This work will have a particular focus on charter network pilot programs over the next year. She previously worked for the New York City Department of Education, in the Office of Post-secondary Readiness, leading the College and Career Planning team to implement citywide initiatives to improve college and career readiness for all students. Her prior work also includes managing college access programs and researching community colleges. Andrea has a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College, an M.A. from the Stanford University School of Education and an Ed.D in higher education from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Erin Stark
Director of Student Supports

Erin joined New Visions in 2013. She is responsible for developing dynamic Integrated Co-Teaching programs for our charter schools. Her prior work experience includes studying for a Ph.D. in co-teaching at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, coordinating the special education program at Uncommon Charter High School and teaching ELA for seven years at Brooklyn Preparatory High School. She holds a B.A. in psychology from SUNY Oswego and a M.S. in urban education from Long Island University.

Shaneeza Sudeen
Budget Analyst

Shaneeza assists in the creation and monitoring of budgets for both New Visions Charter High Schools (NVCHS) and New Visions for Public Schools.  In addition, she is responsible for providing weekly and monthly financial analysis and reports for New Visions and NVCHS staff.  Prior to joining New Visions, she worked at Avondale Group and the Child Center of New York.  Shaneeza holds a Bachelor's degree in organizational psychology from Queens College.

Caroline Suh
Instructional Specialist

Caroline is responsible for collaborating with teacher teams to produce inquiry-based curriculum in the humanities. For the last 14 years, she has worked as an English language arts teacher for the Institute for Collaborative Education in Manhattan and Lyons Community School in Brooklyn, as well as a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching English in West Africa. She holds a B.A. in american literature and culture from UCLA, and an M.A. in English education from Teachers College, Columbia University. 

Kat Syta
Development Associate

Kat assists in the identification, solicitation, and stewardship of key donors to support the mission and strategic priorities of New Visions for Public Schools. She works closely with other members of the development team to align messaging and support all stages of the grant cycle, from identification to maintenance and data management. Kat has interned with various nonprofit organizations, including Doctors without Borders, and Families for Freedom, and worked at the Kosciuszko Foundation. Prior to joining New Visions, she supported survey administrations in NYC public high schools for NYU's Research Alliance for New York City Public Schools. She holds a bachelor's degree from the City College of New York in international studies and a master's degree from The New School in international affairs, with a concentration in Development.

Ashley Tam
Product Manager

Ashley defines and executes the vision and strategy for digital products designed to support educators in helping students succeed. Previously she worked as a product manager for a mail marketing platform that specializes in sending personalized, handwritten notes at scale. She earned her B.A. in psychology and English from Wesleyan University.

Glenda Tesalona
Alumni Relations Manager

Glenda is responsible for connecting with alumni from New Visions charter and transfer schools to provide critical support necessary for successful postsecondary transitions. She previously served in other roles in the New Visions network, including program officer and community and family engagement manager at a New Visions Charter High School. She holds a B.A. in political science and an M.A. in education from Fordham University. 

 

Wendy Thomas-Williams
Math Instructional Coach

Wendy is responsible for coaching and developing novice and mentor teachers in mathematics through our teacher residency program. Before coming to New Visions, she designed and implemented job-embedded professional development for NYC schools in Common Core aligned mathematics and science. At Northeastern Illinois University, Wendy managed professional development for the Intensified Algebra Project, directed the Interactive Teaching and Learning (ITL) Mathematics Project, taught mathematics teaching methods courses and supervised novice teachers. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Missouri and a Master's degree in urban education from Concordia University.

Adam Thompson
Product Designer

Adam is responsible for creating effective and visually appealing experiences for New Visions Data Portal users. Before New Visions, he worked as a UX & product designer at Music Tribe, Zynga, Noom, KnowRoaming, and Sony. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Waterloo.

Sara Toguchi
Deputy Director, School Support

Sara supports the routinization of critical tasks as a part of the New Visions school support strategy, including providing resources and tools for monitoring school progress.  In addition, she collaborates with key internal and external partners to develop aligned approaches for supporting administrative and instructional practices in schools. Before joining New Visions, Sara worked in NYC schools for 10+ years as a classroom teacher, coach, and team leader, among other school leadership roles and responsibilities. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English and Philosophy from the University of Washington, her Master’s degree in Mathematics and Secondary Mathematics Education from the City College of New York, and received a certificate in Educational Leadership & Administration from Hunter College of New York. 

Angie Torres
Deputy Director of Student Support

Angie Torres supports New Visions Charter High Schools in meeting the needs of special education and English language learner populations through transition planning and maintenance of compliance mandates.  She works with the Affinity Field Support Team to design and implement New Visions data tools which enable schools to more easily manage the process of supporting students with disabilities. Prior to New Visions, she worked for 8 years as a special educator and teacher leader in the South Bronx and in East New York. Angie was a member of NYC Teaching Fellows and holds an M.S. in teaching students with disabilities from City College. 

Iris Trinidad
Junior Accountant

Iris is responsible for processing accounts payable disbursements for the New Visions Charter High Schools network. She started at New Visions in 2015 as an admissions assistant, providing support for charter school lotteries. Prior to New Visions, she worked at Park Avenue Securities as a cash control specialist. Iris has over 10 years of experience in office administration and support. She holds an Associate's degree in business administration & accounting from ASA college.

Ethan Tucker
Academic Policy Resident

Ethan Tucker assists in providing quality assurance for New Visions' data products. He previously worked for the New York City Council and Save the Bay, an environmental advocacy group in Oakland, California. Ethan holds a B.A. in English and environmental studies from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.

Stephanie Urena
Student Recruitment & Admissions Manager

Stephanie joined New Visions in 2012. She manages student recruitment for the network of charter schools as well as the application system and lottery.  Prior to joining New Visions, she worked as a project assistant at the NYU Arthur O. Eve Opportunity Programs and as a field counselor with Esperanza Community Options for Youth. Stephanie holds a bacheror's in mental health and psychology and a master’s degree in social work from NYU.

Jeremy Vargas
Junior Quality Assurance Engineer

Jeremy works as part of the data portal team to test applications, monitor issues in production, and provide appropriate support to developers as needed. He is also involved in revamping current QA processes to include automated testing. Prior to joining New Visions, Jeremy worked as a software engineering intern at Thomson Reuters, where he primarily focused on providing QA support for a legal research platform. He holds a B.S. in software engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Andrea Velikov
Program Officer, MicroCert

Andrea leads recruitment, administration, data collection and analysis for the Micro-Certification unit. She supports three programs: MicroCert Professional Development, the Multilingual Learner Project and the Students with Disabilities Certification Initiative. Prior to joining New Visions, Andrea worked as a program assistant at the American Museum of Natural History where she provided administrative support for the museum’s Master of Arts in Teaching program.  Andrea is currently pursuing an M.A. in applied educational leadership and management at the University of London, through its distance learning program.

Devin Venkatesan
Full Stack Developer

Devin is responsible for developing and maintaining software applications. Prior to New Visions, he served as a software engineer at CommerceHub in Albany, NY. He holds a bachelor's of information technology from Anna University in India and a master's of information systems management from Carnegie Mellon University. 

Desiree Venturanza
Human Resources Generalist

Desiree is responsible for supporting New Visions Charter High Schools and the HR business partners with recruitment, benefits administration, new hire on-boarding and data tracking. Prior to joining New Visions, Desiree worked at World Youth Alliance as an operations and human resources manager. Desiree has an M.S. in human resources management and development from NYU.   

Rachelle Verdier
Deputy Director, Urban Teacher Residency

Rachelle Verdier joined New Visions in 2011. She provides professional development support to the teacher-training program that integrates residents' graduate coursework with hands-on experiences in public schools. Rachelle has over 10 years of experience as a NYC science teacher, including 6 years as a staff developer. Previously she served as a 7th and 8th grade science teacher, 7th grade technology teacher at I.S. 68 (Isaac Bildersee Intermediate School) in Brooklyn. Rachelle earned her B.A. in environmental science from Boston University and her M.A. in secondary science education from Brooklyn College.

Anisah Waite
Continuous Improvement Coach

Anisah works with principals and school leadership teams to support the design and improvement of core school systems. Prior to joining New Visions, she conducted education policy research on topics including school culture, teacher professional community, and school leadership. She also taught a course on the sociology of schools at Columbia University. She began her career in education as a high school science teacher in New York City. She has a master’s in teaching from Fordham University and a Ph.D. in education from the University of California, Berkeley.  

David Wees
Formative Assessment Specialist

David joined New Visions in 2013 and is responsible for producing inquiry-based curriculum aligned to the Common Core Learning Standards in high school mathematics and designing high quality professional development related to that curriculum. He has taught middle school and high school mathematics and science in New York, London, Bangkok and Vancouver. He holds a B.Sc. in mathematics, a B.Ed. in secondary mathematics, and an M.A. in educational technology.

Russell West Jr.
Counsel and Deputy Director of Instruction

Russell West Jr. joined New Visions in 2011. He directs the Astor Center for Public School Libraries and the MicroCert professional development program for teachers, leaders and school-based staff; Russell also provides legal counsel to the management team. He came to New Visions after serving as director of Humanities College Preparatory, a small learning community at Hillcrest High School in Queens. He is an alumnus of both the New York City Teaching Fellows and the New Visions/Baruch College SAM program. He holds degrees in history, English, law, mathematics and educational leadership. Russell is an Ed.D. candidate at Hunter College School of Education.

Moira Wilkinson
Instructional Specialist, Multilingual Learner Project

Moira works with teacher teams to develop their capacity in supporting the academic and socio-emotional needs of multilingual learners. Prior to New Visions, she worked as a Spanish and history teacher in Milwaukee public schools and as a teacher educator in the City College of New York Bilingual Education and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) program. Most recently, she founded a consulting firm to support schools and school systems in improving educational equity and environmental sustainability in the United States and internationally. Moira holds a B.A. from Dominican University in political science, an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin in Latin American studies, and a doctorate from Columbia University in international education development. 

Brithney Williams
Administrative Assistant

Brithney serves as the administrative assistant to the president. She previously worked at an early learning center assisting children with special needs. Her experience in education began while serving as a Jumpstart Corps member where she worked to provide quality education to preschool students in under-resourced communities. In addition, she became a member of Forestdale Inc., providing one-on-one literacy tutoring for elementary school children. Brithney is a member of the first graduating class of the New Visions Affinity school, Academy for the Careers in Television and Film. She holds a B.A. in speech language pathology from Brooklyn College.

Suhui Won
Managing Director for Development

Suhui helps define organizational strategy and leads the planning and execution of New Visions’ fundraising efforts, along with building a development team that meets the current needs as well as aspirations of the organization. She has more than 15 years of experience in the development field, raising critical private and public funds for nonprofit organizations focused on educational access and economic opportunity. Suhui has worked at the New York Hall of Science, Harlem Children’s Zone, United Way of New York City, and most recently Pursuit, a social impact organization focused on helping low-income individuals gain education and careers in the technology sector, where she was the organization’s first managing director of development. She also led the New York Hall of Science 50th anniversary capital campaign, which raised more than $54 million for new exhibitions, research initiatives and educational programs. She has a B.A. in history from Bard College, is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and served on the New York Women’s Foundation’s Grants Advisory Committee. 

Victoria Xie
Accountant

As a member of Finance, Vicky supports New Visions on accounts payable and accounting functions.  Most recently, Vicky worked at Unite Here! in their finance department, and prior to that, at several for-profit entities.  Vicky has a B.A. in accounting from Baruch College and a M.S. in accounting from Queens College. 

Joanna Yip
Lead Instructional Specialist, Student Support

Joanna Yip develops and coordinates network strategies for supporting multilingual learners and students with disabilities in core instruction, with an emphasis on integrating multi-tiered systems of support for language and literacy. In addition, she collaborates with instructional specialists to develop aligned approaches to supporting curriculum and instruction in schools. She has worked in the field of education as a teacher, college counselor, instructional and leadership coach, consultant on specific projects, and as an instructor in teacher preparation programs. She has a Master's degree in TESOL, a doctorate in urban education policy from the CUNY Graduate Center, and a School Building Leader (SBL) certification through the NYC Leadership Academy. 

Jonathan Yoo
Lead Strategic Data Facilitator

Jonathan works with a portfolio of NYCDOE Affinity Schools to support the implementation of New Visions data tools and develop the reliable organizational processes that ensure all students have the best chance of graduating from high school. Prior to New Visions, he worked as a graduate research assistant at the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University and as an evaluation consultant with Boston Public Schools. Previously, he was a middle school math teacher and department chair in San Antonio, Texas. He holds a bachelor's degree in finance from Rutgers University and a master's in education policy and management from Harvard University.

Jada Young
Program Coordinator, Recruitment and Admissions

Jada is responsible for supporting the New Visions teacher certification team in recruiting and admitting future New York City teachers. Before coming to New Visions, she coordinated youth empowerment programs serving underrepresented youth in the Bronx and Brooklyn, respectively. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Black studies from SUNY New Paltz and a Master of Arts degree in Africana studies from the University at Albany, SUNY.

Jamie Yu Ramos
Engineering Manager

Jamie joined New Visions in 2015. He leads an engineering team as part of the New Visions systems and data analytics department.  Prior to New Visions, he worked as a software developer at Diobox, ADP, and the United Nations. He has also worked as a consultant to small design and development firms in the New York area and spent ten years at Washington Mutual Bank as an IT support team supervisor and business analyst. He holds a B.A. in English literature from the University of Washington and is a graduate of General Assembly.

Angel Zheng
Senior Policy Analyst

Angel is responsible for providing advanced project management and support to the senior policy advisor and the senior management team of New Visions. She offers critical research and policy analysis support to departments on decisions required to achieve their goals and coordinates projects undertaken by cross-departmental teams. Angel previously taught abroad in Macau as a Fulbright scholar and worked at the New York State Assembly as a graduate fellow. She completed a dual B.Sc. and M.A. from Pennsylvania State University's Schreyer Honors College in education theory and policy, with a special focus on community and civic engagement.

Alisa Zhukova
Product Designer

Alisa is responsible for creating effective and visually appealing experiences for New Visions Data Portal users. Before New Visions, she worked as a visual & product designer at adMarketplace, WE, and Lish. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in graphic design from Winona State University.
