Girls Who Code

Coding is the future, and that is why AMS II was so proud to sponsor our student, Moamesee Foday, in a Girls Who Code two week summer iPhone development program. It focused on teaching students how to develop an app using code while also empowering our young women through sisterhood. On Friday August 3rd, we were able to see all her hard work pay off as Moamesee and her group presented the app they created called Learn. Action. Impact. (L.A.I.), which focused on spotlighting social justice issues. It’s intent is to bring awareness to all who would potentially use this app so that people can become more informed on injustices throughout the world in hopes of stopping the wrongs happening day and night. Here is what Moamesee had to say about the opportunity, “ I honestly learned a lot these past two weeks of being apart of Girls Who Code. I enjoyed all the sisterhood activities and the apps we made. Especially the quiz app. Since I’ve never coded before or made anything, to me the quiz app was the easiest to do. It was great being part of something so amazing. I was able to make friends with some of the girls and learned alot about them. One thing I learned from one of my group mates is that I could use a code from one of our other apps to put into our Capstone App. My advice for any women studying computer science is to never give up and keep trying. You’ll always get it in the end.” It was amazing to see how much all the groups were able to create in the two week span.
