Dear Incoming AMS Students and Families,

Congratulations on your acceptance into AMS!   We are excited to have you be part of our AMS community and I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of what to expect over the course of the next four years.  At AMS we believe in developing ALL students such that they are deep thinkers, effective communicators, and thoughtful collaborators.  We believe these are the necessary skills to be successful in an ever-changing world.  The specific language we use at AMS to identify these particular skills are the five habits (see below).   At AMS we strive to ensure that the experiences we give our students both inside and outside the classroom are designed to support our students in developing these five habits.

Five Habits: Managing Impulses, Persistence, Listening with Understanding and Empathy, Communicating with clarity and precision, and Applying past knowledge to new situations.
We believe that by developing the above dispositions in our students over the next four years, it will ensure that they leave AMS both academically prepared for college or work, and most importantly, with the ability to be a kind/caring human being.

Your first experience at AMS will be what we call Summer-Bridge.  Summer-Bridge is an opportunity for our incoming freshman to:

• Build healthy relationships with both their peers and their teachers
• Start to develop an understanding of the five habits and our LCE focus standards of making connections, creating meaning, using evidence & reasoning to support a claim, and persistence.
• Start to develop an understanding of the classroom structures and routines
• Start to develop an understanding of our systems and processes, such as attendance, lunch, etc.
• To get oriented to the building
• To HAVE FUN!

Looking Forward

We are all so excited to meet and get to know each individual student! We look forward to seeing all students during Summer Bridge, and to a productive and exciting school year!  We will be in touch in late July/ early August with more details pertaining to Summer Bridge and whether or not it will be in person or virtual.  Please be safe and well during these challenging times.
