I am proud to be the educational leader of the AMS IV PRIDE. We are beginning another step in our four (4) year journey that will lead our scholars to success in college, the workforce and beyond. I am enthusiastic to welcome our new families to AMS IV and look forward to collaborating with you to ensure success for all of our students.
AMS IV’s learning community is centered on PRIDE - Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline and Excellence. In addition to developing critical thinkers and doers, we encourage our students to demolish the common stereotypes that are associated with urban youth by exemplifying our core values in every aspect of their lives. Character development is integral to progress. Character is who you are and what you do when no one is watching. We do things differently at AMS IV and express to our students that successful people think and do things differently.
The AMS IV community is focused on the academic, social and emotional needs of our scholars. AMS IV believes in and is committed to providing all students, regardless of their previous academic history, the highest quality education while supporting them in a caring environment that embodies an atmosphere of respect, responsibility and safety. AMS IV, as part of the New Visions network, works to radically disrupt the cycle of poverty by improving student achievement, resilience and creativity.
AMS IV will ensure that students graduate with the skills and content knowledge necessary to succeed in their post-secondary choices by engaging students, teachers and administrators in coherent learning experiences that allow risk-taking, embracing multiple attempts at learning, cultivating students’ imaginative and creative abilities, and celebrating achievement.
Our philosophy is to foster students’ intellectual curiosity and love for learning, balancing this academic commitment with a focus on cultivating moral character and integrity. We believe that all students should be challenged academically and asked to use critical thinking skills to discover, analyze and critique real world issues. We also believe that students should be equipped with the reading, writing and speaking skills to easily and persuasively communicate their ideas to others.
Our school model enables our faculty to support students’ intellectual, social and personal development. Our curriculum enables students to pursue their own goals by striving to master skills and knowledge, while fostering creativity and independence in all academic disciplines. Our students will graduate with the ability to use their education to think critically, reflect on the world around them and see how they can use their skills and talents to further the greater good of the community in which they live.
I ask each AMS IV parent, student and staff member to demonstrate PRIDE and strive for nothing less than excellence in our work. Each year we strive to work smarter, not harder, to ensure that our scholars’ success is the most important aspect in our learning community.
I ask my families today to continue to be involved in our students’ lives. High school is a time of change, challenge, exploration and success. Our students , although they may think otherwise, need our support and guidance more than ever, to develop the foundation to successfully compete with and to be successful in the global community. The elementary and middle school mentality is now a thing of the past. Our students are young adults striving to and succeeding in knocking down the idea that urban students, “can’t.” AMS IV students CAN! We are the AMS IV PRIDE.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
